If you know me, you know that I love to watch a good baseball game. This is a relatively new phenomenon, as I hated sports as a kid. But through teaching, I got excited about the Mariners and now a trip to the ballpark is a thrill for me.
Last week Saturday was designated “Family Fun Day.” Our originally plan was to go to the zoo, but after looking for the hours online, we discovered that the prices had been raised (almost doubled!) and since we only had less than half the day left by the time everyone finished their Saturday “chores”, we didn’t want to spend that kind of money for that little amount of time. We talked about going for a hike, but the drive was too long for the amount of time we had left in our day as well. So, Ed decided we were going to visit our local (as in almost-next-door) parks before having dinner out and browsing through Barnes & Noble (one of our family’s favorite stores). Ed decided to bring some “stuff to do” along.
We started with a little photo shoot so I could try out some spots for future extended family photos. I told them they had to be in the picture, but they didn’t have to look good or cooperate. This was just one of the many goofy shots I got.
We brought along this tossing parachute, but Sarah was having trouble. She delicately brought it to her father to get him to make it work.
Yay! Finally Sarah almost got it to work properly!
Elise had some fun going UP the slide.
We enjoyed some beautiful country scenery.
Sarah kept jumping from the swings. We began to worry that she would sprain an ankle and then the XC Coach would not be very happy.
So we decided to play baseball. And while we may not be good, we sure had fun.
Elise did not hit this ball. The ball is on the way to her.
She wants Ed to throw her the ball.
Every other picture is too embarrassing to post. I didn’t even realize how bad we were until I looked at the pictures. We all look completely awkward trying to play baseball.
But you know what? We had a good time.
Then we headed home for baths and then out for a nice dinner. Recognize this?
Yum! Thanks, Logos, for the gift card celebrating Ed’s 15 years with the company!
My poor, overworked 7th grader has been desperate to find time to read as she used to. I couldn’t say no to reading while we waited for dinner.
I surprised the girls with Silly Bandz. Have you seen those? Crazy things. Little rubber bands in shapes that you wear on your wrists in mass numbers and trade with your friends. The shapes come back when you take them off your wrist.
They were pretty excited to finally have some of their own!
Becca looks like she’s about to punch me, but I promise, she’s not. She was just showing off her Silly Bandz.
Even though we discovered we’re not good at baseball, we did discover that we’re still pretty good at having fun together.
