A couple weekends ago when Ed’s Uncle Larry & Aunt Judy were here visiting, they introduced us to the world of geocaching! I’m sure many of you have heard of it, as we had, but we had never gone! Well, Uncle Larry has an iPad with 3G and some friends took them geocaching once and they were hooked!
Uncle Larry walked into our house on Sunday afternoon with his iPad and announced that there was a geocache right behind our house. So off we went!
Sarah immediately took over with the iPad and followed the GPS to the site of the geocache.
Still can’t find that little plastic container!
We read every hint there was about that particular geocache, but we never found it. Ed learned from a co-worker later on that we weren’t quite in the right spot – seems the GPS wasn’t entirely accurate. And now that we think we know where it is, we’ve decided we have to wait to track it down until the blackberries die back; otherwise we risk lots of bee stings and thorn pricks!
We piled into the van to drive across the river and hunt for a boy scout geocache at Riverside Park.
And we found it!
More accurately, Becca found it!
Since she found it, she got to choose which toy inside to trade for the Canadian quarter (which was the only thing “of value” we had along for trade).
Success!
We tried to find another down by the river, but it, too, was completely overgrown. We followed up our adventure with a dish of orange sherbet (since the day had gotten quite warm!) and then we had to say good-bye to Uncle Larry & Aunt Judy. It’s been over two years since we saw them last and that was at Aunt Joanne’s funeral. Before that we hadn’t seen them since Ed’s mom’s funeral. It was so good to see them – especially without a funeral bringing us together!
