Music Festival

Last week was the 3rd annual music festival in town. We generally don’t participate in a lot of the activities, simply because life is pretty busy, but this year there was a community children’s choir that Bethany was asked to be a part of. Auditions (to place for voice range) were in September and the children were given a CD with the music so they could rehearse ahead of time. The performance was this past Wednesday and the children rehearsed together 3 times for a total of 5.5 hours and they sounded great!!

They were part of an opening Festival Gala which included an accordionist from Finland, a beautiful violin solo, a string quartet, and ended with all the participants, including the audience, singing “America, the Beautiful.” I had tears. Why those patriotic songs make me cry, I do not know, but they do. And then to top it off my girl is up there on stage singing her heart out, so I just didn’t have any choice.

The video picture isn’t great, but you can hear how great they sounded. Bethany is the 4th from the left on the top row. Just click on each song name to view:

“The Sun is Arising”

“The Lamb”

“Yonder Come Day”

“Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”

“The Happy Wanderer” (just a note here: the accordionist played with them at the performance, but they had never practiced together since he flew in from Finland that very morning!)

Which one is your favorite? Mine are “Yonder Come Day” and “The Happy Wanderer” – they were definitely the most fun to watch in person!
