Day Five

Wednesday, August 5, was absolutely a glorious day for us. We woke up early to clear skies and headed out to view the tidepools during minus tide. It was awesome. We saw two kinds of anenomes, sea stars, two kinds of chitons, mole crabs, jellyfish, two kinds of barnacles, an octopus(!), mussels, fish, hermit crabs, snails, limpets, a dead sea lion, and a amphipod in Sarah’s crocs! Unfortunately, I don’t have pictures of the two most interesting things - the octopus and the amphipod. We could only just see a couple of the legs of the octopus and the tide was coming in and just as I was about to take a picture, two huge waves came in right after each other and by the time the dust settled, he was gone. I don’t have a picture of the amphipod because we were just so surprised to find it in Sarah’s croc! Plus, it kind of hopped away. Basically, it’s like a grasshopper/flea/crab that lives in the sand. That’s the best way I can describe it. If you want to know more, e-mail my bro Randy, the biologist.

The dead sea lion was pretty gross, in case you were wondering, and I don’t have pictures of that, either. Be thankful.

After tidepooling, a leisurely breakfast, and rest time, we took some more family photos and then headed down to the beach for some fun in the sun! This web album is slightly larger than the last…85 pictures…because there were just so many good pictures and it was such a beautiful and sunny day down at the beach. We had so much fun!
