100 years of LCS

Our school is celebrating it’s 100th year of operation this year! It’s awesome. We have truly been blessed by God and He has shown His faithfulness to our school over and over, each year. Yesterday morning Ed & I had the privilege of going to convocation, which is the opening ceremonies our school has every year on the first day of school. Being that we are beginning our celebration of 100 years, it was a very special convocation.

There’s Bethany, sitting on the bleachers with all the big 4th graders. I didn’t see Sarah – snuck in around behind me, I guess.

We sang praises to our faithful God, led by the choir director and one of my favorite high school singers.

The Superintendent entertained us all, as usual, with jokes about current teachers who were there when the school started 100 years ago. Our Superintendent is awesome and we are thankful for him.

We were honored to have our county executive speak a few words. And honestly, I know he’s a big public hero and all, but I was glad he spoke only a few words. He has a voice like you would hear in a museum if you got the headphones with the narrated tour. He’s got a narrated tour voice. Very easy to tune out. Sorry.

Our mayor also spoke and it was also an honor to have him there. He was very complimentary of our school.

The Superintendent of the local public school also honored us by coming and speaking a few words. He was awesome. He began by saying what a privilege it was, after 24 years in  public education, to stand and praise the name of Jesus on the first day of school. Oh yes, what a good reminder to all of us that there is a reason we pay the monetary price we do to send our kids to a Christian school. And yes, what a good reminder to all of us that there are Christians in the public school and they are making a difference there, too.

Our main speaker was a retired pastor, very familiar with our community. He spoke directly to the kids, instructing them that, just like Moses, they are standing on holy ground. Thank you!

The Superintendent ended with a prayer thanking God for a huge list of school subjects, reminding the parents and the kids that our world does indeed belong to God, from the patterns in math that prove our God created an orderly universe, to the wonders of creation that prove our God is mighty and creative, to the books that remind us that all people are God’s children and that we can learn from each other. I was so blessed by that convocation – and encouraged in knowing that our children are in an environment where they are surrounded by Christian adults who love them and who work with us to teach them everything from a Christian worldview so that our children are prepared to go out into the world and be transforming in their work for God’s kingdom. I am so thankful and humbled.
