This year’s Summer Stock theater was The Music Man, Jr. I LOVE The Music Man, I’m guessing because that was the musical my senior year of high school. I was SO excited for the girls to be part of this show! We watched the OLD movie with Robert Preston & Shirley Jones a couple weeks beforehand and the girls did not like it. I was concerned…how was this possible? The Music Man is quite possibly the best musical ever!
Well, fast forward a couple weeks and I cannot get them to stop singing “Oh – oh the Wells Fargo Wagon is a’coming down the street, oh please let it be for me!”
Bethany received the part of Maud Dunlop, one of the gossipy ladies of the town. She was absolutely HYSTERICAL! Becca and Elise were Wa-Ton-Ye girls and townspeople. This was Elise’s first opportunity to be part of Summer Stock and I wasn’t sure how she would like it. During the two weeks of rehearsals she sometimes wished she could have a day off. It was maybe a little tiring for her?? But, when it came down to showtime, I am pretty sure my baby was also bit by the show business bug. And Becca? She performed on cue as always.
The show was a raving success and when I say it was a good show, I mean it. Not just because I’m a mom…because it was actually good. Incredibly well done…even if we weren’t taking into consideration the fact that these kids rehearsed together from 10-2 for 9 days, 9-3 the 10th day, and then performed it twice. That’s it! 9 days and then dress rehearsals! Talented kids and talented directors. We are blessed!
First off, a few pictures from the dress rehearsal.
The whole cast!!!
Below – pictures from the first performance:
She was the smiley-est girl on stage! These are from “Iowa Stubborn.”
Now we’re into “Trouble!”
These are the little “Wa-Ton-Ye” girls – during an assembly on the 4th of July!
Some more fun expressions from “Maud” during the assembly, when Harold Hill comes in to introduce his boys’ band!
Isaiah made a great Harold Hill!
The ladies are thrilled that Harold Hill asked the mayor’s wife to lead the dance committee and then explain the “scandal” surrounding Marian the librarian to Harold Hill.
“He left River City the library building, but he left all the books to HER!”
Wells Fargo - “PLEASE let it be for me!”
Look at that in the picture above, all 3 of my girls right near each other during this scene! A mother’s dream come true!!
I just couldn’t get enough pictures of that smiling 8-year-old!
It was after this scene that Elise went skipping off the stage and we were sitting there in the 4th row practically rolling on the floor with laughter. It appeared as though she liked performing!
Our lovely friend Holly was Marian the librarian. We were SO proud of her – she made a perfect Marian!
Applaud, applaud, applaud for an outstanding show!
