Beauty & the Beast

From the second week of November until the first week of February, our lives were consumed with “Beauty & the Beast.” It was wonderful. Bethany had SO much fun, made friends, and basically enjoyed pretty much every minute of those months of musical rehearsal. Sarah was again the stage manager, and while her role didn’t start until mid-January, it was a stressful one that she handled with confidence & grace. As their mom, my heart swelled with joy every time either one talked with a smile on their face about the dancing or the costumes or the fog machine, and my heart was practically full to bursting at each performance. LCHS is known for its high-quality drama program and this year did not disappoint. In fact, it was one of the best productions EVER!

These pictures may not be in chronological order (according to the script), since they were taken over the course of 3 performances, plus some post-show and backstage photos, but you’ll have to agree that Bethany is the cutest plate you’ve ever seen.

Our friend Holly was Babette, the feather duster and she about stole the show, with the exception of Bethany, of course. She was SO GOOD!

The Beast was excellent – one of this kid’s best performances ever. He truly portrayed the inner turmoil of the Beast.

This is when the villagers attack the castle and all the castle inhabitants fight back.

The transformation scene…when the Beast becomes human again. This was a lot of work for the stage crew as they had to have two guys underneath, turning a crank so that the Beast would spin around, they were running the fog machine, and they were rubbing all the “Beast” make up off so that he wouldn’t look scary anymore. Sarah often had to  physically blow the fog so it would fill up the tower and distort the view of the audience from what was happening during the transformation. It was totally awesome.

Babette became a French Maid.

That’s the end of the first set of pictures from the first time I saw the musical. I’ll stop here and post the next set soon.

yes, i'm drooling for those books (especially since my source - Second Chance via you - seems to have dried up)!
but even more incredible is that adorable plate (who looks SO DIFFERENT in that close up photo with her hair in a bun! i almost didn't recognize her!)... and it looks like it was an incredible show!
