Graduation Night

On Thursday, June 9, our oldest daughter graduated from high school.

Yeah, I don't even know how that happened, but happen it did. And it was wonderful. And gut-wrenching. And awesome.

The first thing that happened was my baby girl came down the stairs like this ^^. This type of event happens maybe 2 or 3 times in a girl's life. Graduation days and a wedding day. She came down with a goofy grin and stopped for me to take a picture. I love that girl - catering to her mommy's whims like that.

Then we took some backyard photos before the ceremony.

We headed to school after that, and showed my older brother around the new gym and locker rooms. Then we watched the "stone ceremony"...this is where the students all drop their picture into a bowl to later be placed under a stone engraved with their graduation year that will be placed at the front entrance to the high school.

This year is my dad's 50th high school reunion, and when a graduate has a grandparent who is celebrating a 50th reunion, the graduate gets to escort their grandparent in ahead of "Pomp and Circumstance." This year there were 2 such graduates and it was SO. COOL. to watch Sarah and my dad walk in.

Then came "Pomp and Circumstance" and my 2nd round of tears...

During the ceremony the introduced all of this year's Valedictorian (this year there were 7...anyone who has a 4.0 or above is a "Valedictorian", but don't get me started on that new thing...)

And yes, Sarah was one of the 7. We are super proud of her!!

She got to shake hands with the principal twice...once for Valedictorian (above) and once when she received her diploma (below).

And then she walked back to her seat with that goofy grin and round 3 of the tears fell.

Round 4 of tears came when the Senior choir members sang "Be Still My Soul" (a favorite), but then after that, no more tears. Just joy.

^^ the class celebrating with silly string ^^

And then came all the hugs and pictures with every friend we could find out on that football field.

It was a wonderful, gut-wrenching, & beautiful night!
