So on the night of Day 4, my baby brother says to me, “Do we have plans for tomorrow morning?” Hmmmm…just swimming. But of course, being the excellent PE teacher/coach/game planner that he is…he came up with an idea that created even more memories!
WELCOME TO THE ARIZONA
FAITHLIFE HOUSE OLYMPICS!
Oh wait, before the Olympics began, Sarah went for a run on the treadmill. I think Susanne might have as well, but I didn’t get a picture of her. Bethany liked to work out on the bikes in the exercise room, but she also rode the real bikes around the “gated community” with grandpa on the morning of Day 5.
The kids entertained themselves with HeadBanz while we cleaned up breakfast and got ready for the Olympics.
TEAM ONE!
TEAM TWO!
EVENT #1: FRISBEE!
Each team is given a time limit and allowed to toss frisbees into the frisbee golf cage until time is up. One point per frisbee!
Pretty sure Team One got the most points on the first event.
EVENT #2: GOLFING!
In addition to competition, there was watching & cheering…and snuggling.
In the golfing event, each player needed to get their ball into each of 4 marked holes with the fewest number of strokes. I don’t remember who won…
EVENT #3: FOOSBALL!
This game got slightly intense…team 2 had two very competitive souls.
EVENT #4: SCAVENGER HUNT!
Several pool table balls were hidden around the house – team one found the most!
EVENT #5: SWIMMING RELAYS!
Of course the Olympics ended in the pool – that way we could go straight into playtime afterwards! First, however, instructions needed to be given to all participants in the relay.
And they’re off!
The question of the hour: Could Bethany hold off Sarah? Why yes! She could! And easily! Sarah better watch out in Cross Country this fall…Bethany just might sneak up on you!
EVENT #6: JUMPING & CATCHING
In this event, my brother tossed the ball to each child 3 times. First an easy throw, then harder, then even harder. For each attempt, Ed, my parents, Susanne, & I had to give a score, 1-10, for accuracy and grace.
I was obviously very busy being a judge, because this is the only picture I have from this event. Surprisingly, no one tried to sway the judges to change their scores…maybe we were too nice?
TEAM ONE was the winner of the ARIZONA FAITHLIFE HOUSE OLYMPICS, but TEAM TWO gave them a run for it! We ended with jumping celebrations!
On your mark….get set….
GO!
After more swimming, jumping, catching, eating lunch, and resting, our Arizona besties, the Dunkin’s, came for swimming and dinner!
Tam – I know there is a picture SOMEWHERE of Dave & Ed chatting on the edge of the pool, but I cannot locate it. If you have it, can you send it to me?
The kids swam, attempted to get to know each other once again and meet new kids (my brother’s family & the Dunkin’s had not previously met), and it was fun and got easier and easier as the day went on.
We made sure to get a selfie this time, since we had forgotten the day before.
But most of these photos are courtesy of Tam & her fancy camera. However, they don’t look that great because of the way I acquired them. Just ignore the pixels. This sweetie is her youngest who is SO loveable and cuddly and just simply oozes sweetness. And if that weren’t enough, check out her eyelashes!
This is Tam’s middle child, adoringly known as #6goingon16, and she is a reader, a caretaker, a girlie-girl, and is basically best friends with Sarah.
Tam’s son, her oldest, her little man, who is mature and fun all at the same time. He is respectful and polite and loves all things boy.
There aren’t pictures of everyone, but I think this one>
is one of my favorites from the entire week. My parents: best friends, soul mates, always enjoying each other’s company.
When dinner was over we rounded up the kiddos for a group shot, and a goofy one as well.
And because we couldn’t be outdone:
Love you and your family!
This ^^ was taken by Sarah at some point that evening. It CAPTURES that little sweet niece of mine. Be still my heart.
